Hi Jesse, I tried your "r2" project, but I still get the behavior where the buttons appear disabled but actually aren't. Are they actually disabled when you try it? If so, then the problem is at my end.
In looking at your code changes in more detail (logging that warning looks like a great idea) it seems like this is really close to working. I really appreciate your help.

Well, time to move on, I've run out of time to get this working. I'll make a note about the project's state on the main page, perhaps it can get picked up again someday.
