Word to FM and FM to Word Conversion

Summary

I'd like to see more input and output formats to support moving content between publishing tools

Detailed Description

I'd like to have a way to convert Word content into FrameMaker files, and FrameMaker content into Word files.

Use Cases

BenAllums   Are there any scenarios where you might use this capability as part of your workflow?

I spoke with one customer (not at RoundUp) who wanted to author new topics with DITA, translate them to FrameMaker, and then use Frame's include text feature to pull in the topic.

In this way, he could avoid the pain of converting his unstructured FrameMaker documents to DITA without making his problem worse by extending the available Frame content.  His long term goal was to move to DITA, but not all at once.

Any ideas for use cases that would be similar?

PaulMueller   One huge case, is when a writing team uses Frame, but their users want the documentation delivered as a DOC file so they can compy parts of the content and incorporate it into their policy and procedures manuals.  This use is great for a company, since it integrates their product deeper in a company (harder to be replaced).

Some reviewers also prefer to get the documentation in Word to comment using the Track Changes features (though PDFs that now allow Adobe Reader users to add comments may make this case less prominent).

The other use cases are more single-use solutions that wouldn't be part of a long-term workflow.

JohnPitt   I regularly use mif2go to provide word versions of last version doco to SMEs to edit for the next version.

Some clients also highly value the ability to revert back to word when I am putting a case for moving them to Frame for their doco.
