Creating a Custom Title Page for PDF XSL-FO Targets
In this section we will talk about how to create a fully-designed cover page that will look just as good as the one you made in Word, but using ePublisher!
Step 1: Target Settings
In ePublisher, navigate to Target > Target Settings...
In the Target Settings window, find the Title Page section at the bottom of the list.
Below is a table explaining the values of each of the fields in this Title Page section
Setting |
Value |
Generate Title Page |
Indicates whether a Title page should be generated or not. |
Title Page Style |
The name of the Page Style to be used to add style settings to the Title Page. |
Title Page Sub-title |
The text of the sub-title that will display on the Title Page.* |
Title Page Sub-title style |
The name of the Paragraph Style to be used to add style settings to the sub-title. |
Title Page title |
The text of the title that will display on the Title Page.* |
Title Page Title style |
The name of the Paragraph Style to be used to add style settings to the title. |
* The use of variables is permitted here
Once the desired settings have been applied, click OK at the bottom of the window. It's time to style the page.
Step 2: Page Styles
Navigate to View > Style Designer to open the Style Designer and click on the Page Styles tab.
In the Page Styles list, click on the New Style Icon to create a new Page Style, and name it the same as the value that was entered in the Title Page Style value in the Target Settings window. This example used the name Cover. Note: if the name of the Page Style and the value of Title Page Style do not match, the styles will not be applied! Make sure they match.
Now we are able to style the cover page however we would like using the Properties and Options tabs. The group of properties that will affect the first page by default will be the Odd Master Page group.
For examples for using these styles to achieve different outcomes, see <examples of use link>.
Also, refer to PageRegions to get a visual perspective on the layout of a PDF page.
Now that the page has been styled to our liking, we can move on and style the Title and Sub-title.
Step 3: Paragraph Styles
Click on the Paragraph Styles tab.
In the Paragraph Styles list, click on the New Style Icon to create two new Paragraph Styles, and name them the same as the values that were entered in the Title Page Title style and Title Page Sub-title style values in the Target Settings window. This example used the names CoverTitle and CoverSubTitle.
Now we are able to style the Title and Sub-title however we would like using the Properties and Options tabs.
