This solution was explored during the end of January Study Hall session.
Notes:
Now that this implementation has been completed, may consider a new one which does not require overriding format.wwfmt or creating a new page template. May be better just to override "toc.xsl", "index.xsl", "pages.xsl" and "Page.asp".
Observations and Outstanding Issues for this sample
You’re right Ben, the sample is almost there. Items 1 and 2 would need to be fixed before I can use it.
1. TOC/Index images
The generated project looks for the images (tocx.gif, index.gif) in the generated projects images folder. Yet, when I put them in my Files folder and in the Formats > Pages > images locations, the files are not getting picked up. If I manually copy them into the generated project’s images folder, the graphic only displays when it has been selected and the other image no longer displays as shown below.
2. Right pane – initial population
- This pane is not populated by default. When I select the About Help and the Tutorials link in the TOC, the first page does display with a right arrow only – which is correct. Can that first help page display here?
3. Style changes
- How can I change the Table of Contents heading font and background colors for the panes?
One thing to note - I thought the sample wasn’t working at first because when ePublisher opens the page immediately after generating the project, the 3 pane layout is not displayed. Eventually, I found that when I clicked the index.html file itself, it opens ok in IE7. Don’t know if that is a potential problem or not when it comes to software implementation.
