PDF Generation is delayed when using Windows 7
Issue
Users will have an intermittent issue with Windows 7 where the PDF generation is delayed and will see a warning in the PDF pipeline about not being able to generate PDF and also will see an error message about relying on system fonts with FrameMaker.
Solution
Configure Adobe PDF Printer
Even if just using system fonts in the source document, it can cause problems for PDF generation if the Printing Preferences are not set a certain way with some systems. To resolve this, complete the following steps:
Click Start -> Devices and Printers (can also be accessed from the Control Panel).
Right-click the Adobe PDF icon and select Printing Preferences.
Click on the Adobe PDF Settings tab.
Clear the box preceding Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts.
Click OK to exit the Adobe PDF Printing Preferences dialog.
Right-click the Adobe PDF icon again and select Printer Properties.
Click on the General tab.
If present in the lower left-hand corner, click on the button Change Properties and wait for the dialog to reopen.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Click the Printing Defaults... button at the bottom.
Click on the Adobe PDF Settings tab.
Clear the box preceding Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts.
Click OK to exit the Adobe PDF Printing Defaults dialog.
Click OK to exit the Adobe PDF Properties dialog.
Warning
You may need to repeat these steps following an Adobe update.
