'Display nonsecure items' and other security warnings

When viewing HTML output generated with earlier versions of ePublisher (prior to 9.3), you may see a message like this:

"This page contains secure and nonsecure items. Do you want to display the nonsecure items?"

For the 9.3 release, we changed some of the HTML by removing all references to "about:blank", which caused such security warnings in many browsers.

If you are getting unwanted warnings related to this issue, you should upgrade to ePublisher 9.3 to fully benefit from these improvements.

To test things before making an upgrade decision, I have modified the 9.2.2 files to reflect this "blank.htm" update, and I have attached the modified files to this solution. To apply the changes, you'll need to perform a project override. Follow these steps:

  1. In your project directory (where the *.wep file is), create a new folder, and name it "Formats".
  2. Within that folder, create another folder, and recreate this directory structure: Formats\WebWorks Help 5.0\Files\wwhelp\ (be sure spelling and capitalization are identical to this example)

  3. Unzip the attached file so that the wwhimpl lies within the new 'wwhelp' directory you created, and all of its subfolders are retained.
  4. Return to your ePublisher project and regenerate output to apply the changes.

You may have to clear your browser cache to update things when you view the output, but that should address all of the "about:blank" instances. If that was indeed the source of your "nonsecure items" dialog, then this should resolve the problem.
